Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aty, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, witnessed the activities of planting 1000 fruitful trees of olive, pomegranate and mulberry trees in Qanater Charity Gardens, which was carried out by the “Youth Loves Egypt” Foundation, in cooperation with the German Thyssenkkrupp Foundation concerned with adapting to climate changes.
Dr. Abdel-Aty stated that the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation’s sponsorship of such initiatives comes within the framework of the ministry’s keenness to support efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate changes, and in recognition of the magnitude of the negative effects of climate change on the water sector, especially in light of Egypt’s hosting of the next climate conference for 2022 (COP27), Organizing the Fifth Cairo Water Week under the title "Water at the Top of the Global Climate Agenda".
This initiative comes within the "Nile Tree" project launched by the "Youth Love Egypt" Foundation on World Environment Day, with the aim of planting half a million trees over two years to adapt to climate changes, while ensuring the participation of local residents in its various activities.
The "Youth Love Egypt" Foundation, under the auspices of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, and in cooperation with the German Thyssenkkrupp Foundation, has planted 1,000 fruitful trees on both sides of the Dahshur Canal in Giza Governorate, which was rehabilitated within the national project for the rehabilitation of canals, and the research unit of the "Youth Love Egypt" Foundation Egypt” to conduct a research study on these trees and the lack of influence of their roots on the rehabilitation work carried out on the canals.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has recently completed the development of Afla Park in Qanatir al-Khairia, which is located on the left bridge of the Damietta branch between the aqueducts of the old Damietta branch and the aqueducts of the new Damietta branch, which is built on an area of ​​(13) acres, and the development work included the construction of a walkway The people of Egypt have the front of the garden on the Damietta branch between the two arches, and Afla garden enjoys a group of rare trees that Muhammad Ali Pasha imported from abroad to be planted in the gardens of the arches, and their age is up to 200 years. Rashid branch on an area of ​​(6) acres, and the lake garden on an area of ​​(5) acres.
The Jasmine Garden is the latest garden currently under development, with an area of ​​(8) acres. A modern irrigation network to irrigate the garden, and the implementation of a night lighting network for the garden, within the framework of the continuous development work carried out by the Ministry of irrigation gardens in Qanatir.
